The boxing fraternity mourns the death of heavyweight boxer Rupeni Rasaku.

South Pacific Boxing Promotion promoter Freddy Chand said it was sad day as Rasaku was one of the boxers that helped revive the heavyweight division in the country.

“Rupeni had fought top heavyweight boxers like James Singh and Jonasa Kavika,” he said.

“Although he lost both fights, Rupeni helped brought about a lot of competition in the division.

“Today, there are lot of heavyweight boxers around.”

Chand said he wanted to include Rasaku in his February 28 promotion in Ba, when he heard of his passing away.

“Rupeni was a gentleman. He had a big heart and was always for boxing, the sport he really loves. He died after a short illness.”

Rasaku was buried at Navoci Village in Nadi yesterday.
