Fijian Drua first-five eighth Caleb Muntz will return to the Flying Fijians training camp next week to prepare preparation for the Pacific Nations Cup.

The revelation was made by the newly appointed Flying Fijians head coach, Mick Byrne in Suva on Thursday.

The 24-year-old has played four Test matches and spearheaded Fiji’s campaign in their historic 30-22 win in Tiwckenham, last year.

However, he injured his knee during training and missed out on the Rugby World Cup.

Muntz also missed out on playing for the Drua in this season’s Shop N Save Super Rugby.

“Muntz has recovered really well.” Byrne said.

It is understood that he has two more weeks before he could be fit to play.

Also in contention for selection is 20-year-old Drua first-five eighth Isaiah Armstrong- Ravula.

When asked, Byrne kept his cards close to his chest but said there is always a chance for new players, especially Drua players to challenge for a spot.

“There is always potential for these young players who are always looking to grow our team,” he said.

The professional set-up of the Drua remains the focal point, where these young players are exposed to that high level of preparation.

“The process of developing the Drua was to create the depth of rugby within professional level.”

Byrne said an effective development plan for Ravula would be observed first before further talks on his inclusion could be engaged.

However, growing the national side with high performing players remains a priority for the new coach.

Other players of Fijian heritage who recently expressed their interest to play for the Flying Fijians include Highlanders winger Timoci Tavatavanawai and Japan-based Nathan Hughes.
