Champs Maigania Win Opener

Defending champion Maigania is on track in the Digicel/Tebara Halal Meats sponsored 63rd Muslim Inter-district Championship at the Prince Charles Park in Nadi after beating Cuvu 1-0 on Thursday night.

The Fazeel Khan coached side laced with Ato Yankson and Afraz Ali edged Cuvu with the lone goal scored by Shoel Dildar in the 33rd minute of play.

“We are on track and we are looking forward to this tournament in a very positive manner,” Khan said.

“We are treating all the matches as final.

The competition is tough, there is no room for complacency.”

Hosts Nadi defeated a star-studded Lautoka side 5-2, in a thriller in front of a jam packed crowd.

Nadi has the services of William Valentine, Sahil Valentine, Zainal Ali, Mohammed Ayman Khan, Mohammed Arian and Mohammed Salmeen.

The Blues have Nigerian Orman Omede, Abu Zahid, Zainal Hussein, Edward Justin, and Zibraaz Saheb in their side.

Lanky Hussaini Khan did a spot kick in the 26th minute of the second spell as Ba edged Varavu 1-0.

Other results: Nasinu 2- 2 Rewa, Navua 1- 1 Valelevu, Sabeto 5- 0 Tavua, Drasa 3-2 Bemana, Ba 1-1 Rewa, Nasinu 1- 1 Varavu.
