The 17th annual Island Breeze Fiji Rugby Plus Clinic 2020 campaign ended well, says an event official.
Event coordinator Maciu Bolaitamana said the team including 10 officials from various sporting backgrounds made the tour.
The first rubgy clinic was held in March which was opened by the director general of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), Yamena Yauvoli.
Yauvoli talked about sports diplomacy and possibility of generating a policy for young sportsmen and sportswomen in the MSG group, Bolaitamana said.
“We know that remittances are what countries in the Pacific tap into, including Fiji that continues to build over the years. This continues to augur well with the work the Government is doing to develop our youths. We also harness the message of equality and inclusiveness in our communities.
“It was a good engagement in communities. Rugby is secondary, the plus factor in building character and preparing them for life after the game.”
About 45 participants gathered in Ovalau, of which 10 were women. In Koroivulu, Cakaudrove, there were 30 participants who are mostly farmers that took part along with four women.
Over the years the programme has produced players like former Australian Wallabies winger Sefanaia Naivalu and Queensland Reds flanker Seru Uru.
Bolaitamana thanked sponsors BLK, and Fultan Hogan’s Civil for their support.
