Fourteen boxers were part of the first national youth and junior squad training camp in Suva with head coach Cam Todd last Saturday.

The young boxers travelled from as far as Nadi and Sigatoka for the one-day training.

Todd was content with the turnout.

"I was really happy with the young team," he said.

"It was a mix of different levels; some experienced ones from the Youth Oceania and also those that fought against New Zealand juniors last year.

"So, for me it was an opportunity to get everyone together.

"I was really impressed with their ability; they worked hard.

"We had three long sessions, not much rest; these young boxers are part of the future of the sport," Todd added.

Some of the youth and junior boxers will feature for their respective clubs at the Golden Gloves Championship next week on January 19-20.

"Most of them will box against each other which is good; I'll get to see them.

"We are looking forward to the Australia youth team in March and we want to thrash the New Zealand juniors and youths at the end of the year."

The national junior and youth boxers will have its training camp once every month.

"If I can get them here every month, and work with their coaches; each time they come here will be a little bit more so that's the plan," Todd said.
