Coke Games 2019: Mateo Banks on Hard Work

Hard work and commit­ment paid off for Adi Ca­kobau School’s Veronika Mateo as she won a gold medal in the intermediate girl’s triple jump event during Day 1 of the Coca-Cola Games.

Mateo jumped 11.11 metres while Mereseini Waqatoki of Suva Grammar School came second with 10.87m followed by Avelina Navue of Saint Joseph’s Second­ary School with 10.82m.

The Qamea, Taveuni native dedi­cated her win to her loved ones and team-mates.

“I think it was the continu­ous hard work and commitment which led to the win,” Mateo said

“This is also my first ever gold medal in the Coke games as last year I settled for silver in this event. Winning gold this year feels amazing.”
