It was a dream come true for Solomone Kaulotukiono of Nadogo Secondary School to win a gold medal in the intermediate boy’s discus event during Day 1 of the Coca-Cola Games.

Kaulotukiono threw a distance of 43.94m to beat Maximus Lestro of Lelean Memorial School second (43.17m) while Iosefo Tagivetaua of Marist Brothers High School was third with 41.93m.

The 17-year-old who hails from Yadrana in Lakeba, Lau was emotional after winning his first ever gold medal.

“I’m really grateful for the win today,” Kaulotukiono said

“I never thought I would be able to win gold and this wouldn’t been possible without the blessing from the Almighty God.

“The competition in this event was quite tough as I had to compete against the best athletes from various schools in Fiji.

“But, nevertheless I will cherish my achievement today and would like to dedicate the win to all my loved ones back at home in Vanua Levu who have been supporting me throughout.”

The intermediate boys discus record of 49.35m by Josua Serukilagi of Queen Victoria School remains intact.
