The brotherhood bond among the Marist Brothers High School students saw Ioane Qalovi win the first gold medal for the school in the junior boy’s shot put event yesterday.
Qalovi threw a distance of 14.06 metres followed by his team-mate from MBHS with 13.78m while Eroni Nabulagi of Queen Victoria School came third with 13.70m.
The Tokua villager from Ovalau dedicated his win to the school as it came with a pleasant surprise.
“I wasn’t expecting to win gold because the competition was quite tough from other schools,” Qalovi said
“I thank my coach that without his guidance and teachings I couldn’t have made it happen today so I am grateful to him for that.
“This also my first ever medal in the Coke Games and looking forward to winning more medals for the school in the coming years.”
