Australia’s female super welterweight boxer Connie Chan conducted a coaching clinic at the Raiwaqa Rugby Club House in Suva today.
“Before I became a boxer I started as a trainer,” Chan who hails from Gold Coast told SUNsports.
“I worked under Jai Opetaia’s dad (Tapu) and as we know Jai Opetaia is the world’s cruiserweight champion.”
RRCH official Marika Yalimaiwai said they are grateful to the Boxing Commission of Fiji, Zeg Kings Promotion and Sydney- based Lepani Wilson for arranging Chan’s visit.
“Raiwaqa as we know have a team in rugby, touch rugby, basketball, recently outrigger and now the revival of its boxing club,” he said.
Yalimaiwai was grateful for Chan’s donation of two pair of gloves and other boxing kits, which has now assisted in the formation of the club’s boxing team.
She fights Fiji’s Sera Bolaitini for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Oceania super welterweight title at Suva’s Vodafone Arena tomorrow.
