Coral Coasters Under-21 rugby team will champion women’s rights as they make their Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens debut at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium today.

The newly formed U21 team comprised of talented players hailing from villages along the Coral Coast. The team yesterday announced its support of Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC), women’s rights and community empowerment.

Captain Orisi Kunaleca acknowledged their supporters and sponsors back home for their continued support since the establishment of their team.

The team is made up of young men from the villages of Malevu and Vatukarasa.

“We are thrilled to align ourselves with the FWCC and stand in solidarity with their mission to promote gender equality and end violence against women,” Kunaleca said.

“Through sports and leading by example, we believe we can inspire positive change in our communities for Fiji.

“First time playing in the Marist 7s tournament; we will do our best during the three- day tournament.

“A lot of sacrifices and effort were put in by the team members, coach and supporters back home to get us to where we are now. There’s been sleepless nights and sweat put in.”
