Dawasamu Secondary School (DSS) Under-18 girl’s team created history by beating Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) School 14-12 in the Weet-Bix Raluve Trophy final at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva, on Saturday.

Speaking to SUNsports, DSS captain Kesaia Senikuba said she was delighted with the win against a tough MGM side.

Senikuba was the mainstay of her team’s campaign leading the charge from her flanker’s berth.

She scored two tries in the final, which earned her the Best Player Award.

“I’ve been playing rugby for two years and I thank the ex-scholars and our parents for their continuous support, “she said.

Senikuba said they had expected a tough encounter against MGM.

“We had prepared well for the final and our game plan was set for us, which we executed on the field,” she said.

Senikuba, is an arts student taking geography, history and Fijian as her subjects.

“I want to pursue a career as a professional rugby player and my plan B is to become a soldier,” she said.
