Spiritual preparedness had played a key role for the Marist Brothers High School Under 18 side to win the Vodafone Super Deans this year.
Head of school Asish Dayal believes the Under 18 team stood out in the Deans competition because they had faith in God.
During the school’s thanksgiving celebration last week at the FMF National Gymnasium in Suva, Mr Dayal reflected on the team’s journey that ended the 44 - year drought.
He said the team would board a 30-year-old carrier truck that transported them to the training venue.
“No fuss, no complaints, it was all for Marist,” he said.
“This team has taught us a very simple lesson. You have a goal, work hard, put God first, believe in your teachers, accept the support of your parents and the old boys and blessings will come your way.”

Mr Dayal thanked parents who supported the Red Fire gladiators throughout the competition.
He also thanked the Marist Old Boys and the Marist Rugby Club.
“I know the Marist Rugby Club has endeavors and undertakings but they opened their doors to our Under 18 team and allowed them to use the club training facilities.”
“School is a place where people have relationships and we have a wonderful community of people sharing a common thread strengthened with the Marist values.
“And because of that, we stand here, everybody has one common denominator: we are all Marist.”
Mr Dayal also acknowledged Suva Grammar School for their participation in the Deans competition with a positive attitude.
He said despite the unfavorable weather conditions, Suva Grammar had put on a great spectacle.
