Delta Tigers Work On Getting Things Right

Rewa will have to bounce back from their nil-all draw against Navua to defend their Punjas Battle of the Giants title.

The BOG will take place at Lau­toka’s Churchill Park on August 26.

The Delta Tigers won the 2020 Pun­jas BOG after defeating Suva, 1-0, in the final.

Speaking to Rewa Football Associa­tion media after their match on Sun­day, Rodu said their last match did not go their way and they would be working things right with the three remaining games against Nadroga, Lautoka and Suva.

“BOG is just around the corner, we will try to take each game as they come,” he said.

“This one time the team is strug­gling, not on our position on the ta­ble but making things right.

“I know the players have the ability to bounce back and make the fans happy.

“I will never swap a player with the players I currently have. They know their role very well, we understand each other.

“Appreciate the fact that they give their time to Rewa and management is backing these players.

“They have the ability to bounce back and I am waiting for that. We will have to rise to the occasion.”

Rewa won their first BOG title in 1979 beating Ba 4-2 in penalty kicks. They won in 2003, defeating Ba 1-0, and in 2017 defeating Nadi 2-1.

While coaching Rewa, Rodu has achieved three back-to-back BOG titles in 2003 and 2004, 2010 and 2011, 2014 and 2015 and 2020.

The Delta Tigers has won the cov­eted BOG title nine times since 1978.

Rewa is banking on experienced including goalkeeper Mohammed Alzar, Peniame Drova, Kavaia Raw­aqa, Gabrieli Matanisiga, Setareki and Bruce Hughes, Ratu Tevita Warainivalu, Patrick Joseph, Alick Worworbu.

The inclusion of former Ba, Lau­toka and national rep Abbu Zahid and former Nadi and national team striker Ruisate Matererenga along with Labasa and national rep Ilisoni Logavou will bring more depth to the Delta Tigers campaign.

They are in the same pool with hosts Lautoka, Ba, and Navua.

They take on Lautoka 6.30pm on Friday, They face Navua on Day Two at 1pm, and battle against Ba is their last pool match on Sunday at 3pm.
