Developing and exposing young talent is crucial for the Dominion Brothers side as they prepare for the Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, tomorrow.

Dominion Brothers is in Pool A with defending series champions Police Blue, Police White and Uuinakau Babaas.

A few young players will join their side this weekend including Sakiusa Kamikamica, the younger brother of Fijian Bati prop Tui Kamikamica.

Trainer and coach, Epeli Matata said most of these young players were school leavers and left their homes to play rugby.

Olympic gold medallist Sireli Maqala and Fijian 7s winger Filipo Bukayaro were members of the Dominion Brothers sevens team.

“Nothing is impossible for these young kids,” he said.

“If Bukayaro and Maqala made it to the national side from this team then definitely there is nothing hard for this young side.

“This team has no sponsors and that is one of our challenges.

“Most of them stay with relatives while we train at YMCA every day for the past 10 months.

“We are taking our Under-21 players to the series as most of our senior players have left for clubs in Beijing, Malaysia and other countries.”

The side is also assisted by Napolioni Bukayaro, father of Fijian 7s halfback Filipo Bukayaro.

The Dominion Brothers U21 side is also preparing for a New Zealand tour in December.

Meanwhile, Fiji Airways Fijian 7s Coach Ben Gollings said: “The Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series has been integral towards giving players game time and also identifying new talents and looking at other players.

“It’s a very competitive set of tournaments and its really supportive of what we need which is to be able to put the players into their clubs and play them in that environment and see how they adapt and perform.

“I’m looking forward to this weekend as it will give us a really good platform as we build into the selection and final week of training before the Hong Kong 7s,” Gollings said.
