Dreketi had earlier drew with defending Northern League champions, Bua, 1-1.
Mani said they are on a rebuilding stage where players were getting familiar with the new combinations in the team.
He said that despite minimum training engagement with players because of their work commitments, they are still working together on the other aspects of their game.
“This is important because we all need to share the same dream and ambition of playing well each week and winning the title,” he said.
Mani said compared to previous years, they have a relatively young and inexperienced team.
He said their players were able to compete and defend well against a strong Taveuni side.
“Taveuni has six clubs playing their local league with over 240 registered players, so their player base is quite strong compared to us.
“Irrespective of that, we managed to score the first goal, and played well during most part of the game”
Marika Vanige scored Dreketi’s lone goal. They travel to Taveuni in for the return match a week after the Easter weekend.
