He is named after sevens rugby maestro Waisale Serevi.
But at the Fiji Finals (known as the Coca-Cola Games), he was running for his school Bua Central College.
Speaking to SUNsports today, the 18-year-old said he intends to create his own legacy.

Young Serevi is the son of another sevens rugby legend William Ryder.
Serevi (Snr) and Ryder played together for Fiji when they won the Rugby World Cup (RWC) 7s title in 2005.
“I want to try athletics, create my own pathway and forge my own legacy,” Serevi said. “I will try my best to win a medal with God’s guidance.”
He runs in the senior boys 200 metres and 400m events.
“It is my first time for us to grace the tracks at the National Stadium and we were scared but we talked among ourselves to focus on our goals. My target is to win the gold medal but if I can’t get it then I’ll settle for silver.”
Serevi is part of the 20-member athletics squad from BCC.
“We are not here to participate but have a mission to achieve and that is to win medals.”
Serevi added that they have endured a lot during their training camp.
“At times we were tired with the training while at the same time we had to study because the exams were just around the corner. We kept reminding ourselves with these words, ‘No guts, no glory’.
I use to only reach the zone but this year I worked hard to qualify for the Coke Games, which I’m grateful for.”
Serevi said his mother Veronika Salaivalu always motivates him to perform to his best.
“I also play rugby union, rugby league and football as well,” he added.
“In rugby union I play wing and full-back whereas in rugby league I play on the wing position. I just play football for fun.”
Training for athletics has taught Serevi to be relentless, humble and gain spiritual growth with his faith.
When we are done with a task, we have to glorify God because he is the source of my strength,” he said.
Serevi aspires to become an aircraft engineer after he completes his high school studies.
