Fiji exits early in Vancouver

Australia had beaten our national men’s sevens side 22 – 7 in the semi-final clash at the Perth tournament. Fiji settled for fourth place after losing 24 –7 to Ireland.

The Fiji Airways men’s sevens team secured a sixth place finish at the HSBC SVSN tournament in Vancouver yesterday and sits in third place of the series standings with 54 points.

This is after the Fiji Airways men’s sevens team lost 24 – 19 against Ireland in the fifth place playoff.

Fiji’s 21-19 quarter-final loss to New Zealand earlier highlighted their inability to win a title in the last 18 HSBC SVNS tournament.

The side’s 2023/2024 HSBC SVNS campaign began with a fourth-place finish in Dubai where the team lost narrowly lost 14 –7 to South Africa in the semi-final. New Zealand then went on to beat Fiji 17 –12 in the third-place playoff.

Fiji fell short of a Cup final appearance in Cape Town where the side was thumped 24 – 7 by Australia in the semi-final clash. Fiji clinched on the third-place position by defeating Ireland 14 – 7.

Australia had beaten our national men’s sevens side 22 – 7 in the semi-final clash at the Perth tournament. Fiji settled for fourth place after losing 24 –7 to Ireland.

The Fiji men’s team has failed to progress to the Cup final from the past four tournaments in their 2023/2024 HSBC SVNS series campaign.

Meanwhile the Fijiana team settled for sixth place after their 29 – 7 loss to USA in the fifth place playoff. Fijiana is currently on seventh place in the series standings with 40 points.

Los Angeles Men’s Pools Fixtures March 1-3: Pool A – Argentina, Ireland, South Africa and Spain. Pool B – New Zealand, USA, Samoa, and Australia. Pool C – France, Fiji, Great Britain and Canada.
