Fiji Swimming (FS) will be electing their new executives during their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 31.
This was confirmed on Monday by FS president Ben Rova.
“I wish to share that a number of us in the current executives have expressed our desire to step down and allow others to come into executive roles,” he said.
“In having said this, it is important that the new executives must start preparing themselves for the next four years of strategic plans for FS on how we must prepare and be ready for 2027 Tahiti Pacific Games.
“As we are in a transition from one exec committee to a new one come March, l would rather leave all major decisions and policies of FS to the new committee to review and make,” Rova added.
He indicated that World Aquatics (WA) has a new constitution which should be adopted by FS.
The current executives have worked with the FS legal partners to draft a FS constitution aligned to WA which they hope to release for review and put to the floor for voting before the AGM.

“There are a number of new clauses which we have to include and that cover inclusivity in the sport, for example transgender swimmers,” Rova said.
“We must also have minimum number of males and females in the executive team plus swimmers reps (male and female). There are quite a few “new” clauses that we must incorporate and also, processes for risk management.”
Rova added that the future is bright for Fiji Swimming with the number of promising swimmers they currently have.
“After doing so well at the 2019 Pacific Games, we dropped in last year’s Pacific Games,” he said.
“If there is a positive outcome for us, that is we have a lot of good up and coming swimmers that are still young to take us forward.
“We must therefore ensure we have a great calendar each year to keep our base of swimmers interested in the sport.”
FS is also hoping to send two swimmers; a male and female, to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games if they qualify.
“The selection for the Olympics will be based on the swimmers (one male / one female] who have attained a minimum B or A Olympic qualifying time or, universality place based on a individuals highest WA point and placing in an individual event that has UP slot at the Olympics, as approved by WA.”
The Olympic Games selection criteria will be issued next month for selection for swimmers and officials. As the criteria; only head coaches with updated qualifications and credentials will be eligible to apply for coaches’ position,” Rova said.
