Fijian Community Farewells Our Sevens Teams In Style

Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rug­by sevens coach, Saiasi Fuli said the support of the Fijian in Dubai has been encouraging throughout the two tournaments.

He made the comments during a farewell dinner organised by the Fijian community at the residence of Latif and Raja Galadari on Sat­urday.

Also present were Fiji’s Ambas­sador to the United Arab Emirates Naipote Katonitabua, sevens maes­tro Waisale Serevi and former Fly­ing Fijians No.8 Sisa Koyamaibole.

The Fiji men’s team were placed ninth while the Fijiana women’s 7s side finished second in their compe­tition.

The teams left flew out of Dubai yesterday.

Pool of death

The Josua Vakurinabili-captained Fijian men’s side are in a tough pool for the second leg of the HSBC World Sevens Series to be staged in Spain from January 21-23.

The Fijians are in Pool A where they take on Series leaders South Africa before facing England and Scotland.

Making a return to the series are defending series champions New Zealand who are in Pool B where they play Australia, Ireland and Ja­pan.

Argentina top Pool C followed by United States of America (USA), hosts Spain and Samoa.

France lead Pool D where they tackle Kenya, Wales and Canada.

Nacuqu tops

Fijian men’s 7s playmaker Wai­sea Nacuqu topped the DHL Im­pact Player standing of the second round of the Dubai Sevens tourna­ment.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold med­allist made 12 tackles, 6 off

loads, 6 breaks and 18 carries for a total of 60 points.

Josh Turner of Australia came in second at 57 along with Fijian-born Japan forward Kameli Soejima.

Meanwhile, Nacuqu topped the Fijians try scoring list with 6 tries during the second round of the Dubai 7s.

He was followed by captain Josua Vakurinabili with four while in third place for two tries each are Joseva Talacolo, Kaminieli Rasaku, Elia Canakaivata and Tevita Dau­gunu.
