Proud dad Atonio Kawakawa told SUNsports yesterday that he was happy that Masi has finally got his degree.
“I’ve been advising my children to study hard and become independent,” he said.
When Kawakawa saw Masi’s interest in rugby, he made sure to keep on encouraging him not to give up on his studies.
“It wasn’t an easy journey for Masi after he left us in Taveuni to further his studies in Suva."
“However, we continued to pray for him and urged him to focus on his studies."
“Masi met a lot of challenges but he faced them alone as he kept on working towards his goals."
“Now he is focused on his rugby league career and is contracted for two years."
"He will use this degree when he comes home to work,” he said.
Kawakawa said Masi is the first from their family to graduate with a degree.
“Children can only be successful when they listen to their parent’s advice and work towards their goals.” he added.
The family prepared a feast to celebrate and Masi later joined them via video call.
“Masi was emotional because he has achieved his two goals in life- to play for the Fijian 7s team and graduate from university,” Kawakawa added.
