Winning a bronze medal in the junior boy’s high jump meant the world to Joni Tabuya of Tavua College.

Speaking to SUNsports, Tabuya said this is his first time participating in the Fiji Finals (known as the Coca-Cola Games).

“I want to thank my coach for his guidance during training,” he said.

“My mum and the rest of my relatives who travelled from Tavua to watch me from the concrete embankment.

The 14-year-old hails from Galoa in Serua and was advised by his family to focus on his jump and they’ll accept whatever medal he brings home.

“I want to thank the teachers for their endless support,” he added.

Looking ahead, Tabuya will work on his fitness, training and diet to improve his performance in next year’s Fiji Finals.
