The appointment of the FIJI Water Flying Fijians head coach is being delayed so that the best is selected for the job.
The Fiji Rugby Football Union Trust Board (FRFUTB) in a press release yesterday stated that the new head coach apart from the required technical knowledge must also have a deep cultural understanding of Fiji plus a proven track record of success at international level.
“We (FRFUTB) are pleased to report that the selection process has attracted a field of high-quality applicants, each of whom has undergone a rigorous two-stage interview process followed by a final interview with the Fiji Rugby Board,” the press release stated.

“The calibre of the candidates has made the decision-making process particularly challenging.
“While the delay may have caused some uncertainty, we want to assure our stakeholders and supporters that the process is nearing its conclusion.
“We would also like to clarify that the decision-making process also involves gaining agreement on the appointment with all tri-partite stakeholders, including the FRU, Fiji Government, and World Rugby.
“This collaborative approach is essential to ensure alignment and consensus on this critical appointment.”
The Flying Fijians head coach position became vacant after Simon Raiwalui did not seek extension of his contract at the end of last year.
Raiwalui took up the role after now Blues coach Vern Cotter resigned a few months before last year’s World Cup.
Fiji lost 30-24 to England in the WC quarter-final.
Raiwalui is now World Rugby High Performance Pathways and Player Development Manager.
