Former Fiji 7s Rep, Penisoni Waki, Passes Away At 52

The late Penisoni Waki

Former national 7s rugby rep Penisoni Waki died on Saturday.

Waki, 52, collapsed at his work place and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Nadi Hospital.

Nadi Rugby Union treasurer Jeff Tamata said, “He would be very fondly known for making everybody laugh with his funny jokes and dance moves. “Nadi Rugby has surely lost one of its great sons. Fiji Rugby Union will surely miss his service and the Japan national team will surely miss their preferred liaison officer.”

Waki hailed from Yavuna village in Nawaka.

He made his debut for Fiji in the 1993 Hong Kong 7s. He played in the final against Samoa which Fiji lost 14-12.

He also played football for Nadi. He is survived by his seven children.
