A former national rugby star winger has called for the removal of Fiji Airways Fiji men’s rugby sevens head coach Ben Gollings.
This was after the Fiji men’s sevens team was bundled out of the cup quarterfinal of the HSBC SVNS Vancouver Sevens yesterday.
The Fijians were beaten 21-19 by New Zealand and earlier on they went down 24-19 to Argentina in their final pool match.
The men’s rugby sevens team has remained winless in the last 18 tournaments, which is one of our worst records in the Series.
Speaking to SUNsports, Vilimoni Delasau expressed the need for Jerry Tuwai to step in and coach the team to the Paris Olympic Games with Sireli Bobo.
“I just saw the news this afternoon and it is really disappointing,” Delasau told SUNsports.

“I don’t know if he (Gollings) was sent to degrade our sevens (rugby) standard or what. I’m tired of what they (Fiji Rugby Union) are doing. They are keeping him (Gollings) there when he is not performing.” Delasau reiterated that it is time to change the Fiji men’s sevens set-up.
“Sireli Bobo has proven himself time and again. I believe Jerry Tuwai should take the team to the Olympics,” he said.
“I don’t know if Jerry is ready to play as I believe he’s ready to coach. I think he’s past his prime as a player and I believe he will be one of the best coaches for our sevens team.”
Meanwhile, the Fijiana women’s seven side suffered a 35-19 loss to Australia in the Cup quarterfinal.
The Saiasi Fuli-coached side made the Cup quarters after beating Japan 36-12 in the final pool match.
