Gau Secondary School coaches believe in quality instead of quantity heading into the Coca-Cola Games.
The Lomaiviti based- school arrived in Suva on Thursday and took to the tracks yesterday to acclimatise themselves.
They are fielding 23 athletes with the aim to win a few gold medals in the field events.
Speaking to SUNsports team assistant manager Semisi Caucau said they are not here to make up the numbers.
“Our strength is in the field and we have been working very hard in that area back in the island,” Caucau said.
“For most of these athletes it’s their first time to come and participate at the Coke Games while for the school this is our third year to come.
“For once we thought we were not going to make it to the Coke Games with all the things about COVID-19 but we are happy to be here.”
He added they are banking on their gold medal prospects Opeti Vateitei and Latileta Balekana.
“Vateitei set a new record in the junior boys discuss during the Lomaiviti Zone while Balekana will be competing in the sub junior girl’s shotput.”
