Ratu Filise captain, Wame Ratuva is one step closer of achieving his goal in representing the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team at the HSBC World Sevens Series.

This was after the lanky 23-year-old was named by head Ben Gollings to join the 27-member training squad.

In an early interview with SUNsports Ratuva had set his goal of playing for Fiji.

“There are many Fiji reps from my village but I want to be the first from my family,” he had said in an earlier interview.

The Namatakula native’s aerial ball skills, physicality and try scoring skills during the first leg of the Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, caught Gollings attention.

The Sigatoka tournament was won by Warden after beating Police Blue 10-7 in the men’s Cup final while Mt Masada beat Police 21-0 to win the women’s category.

Ratuva made his debut for Ratu Filise in 2020 when he was 19 and instantly became a marked man.

He grew in maturity playing against seasoned 7s reps like Meli Derenalagi, Josua Vakurinabili, Sevuloni Mocenagi, Pio Tuwai, Semi Kunatani and Asaeli Tuivuaka.

Gollings also included new players like Eastern Saints Seru Waqalevu, Apisai Ravueta, Vuiviwa Naduvalo, Tabadamu playmaker Petero Kelevanua, Apolosi Tora, Sakeo Delai, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Jiosevani Soro and Apolosi Tora.
