Habosi Tells All

Having the right attitude at training is the key to Swire Shipping Fijian Drua star winger Vinaya Habosi’s (pictured bellow) consistent performance.

Dubbed ‘Bossman’ by TV commentators, Habosi’s off-field performance is reflected in his game as a try scoring machine in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.

On Saturday night, Habosi plays in his eighth match.

He is the only Drua player to have played in all their Super matches.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday he said that it all begins in training.

“I always make sure that I do 90 per cent off-field and 10 per cent onfield so the amount of practice I do during training reflects on my performance,” Habosi said.

“It’s when you work hard off the field, the result will reflect on your on field performance."

“Every Monday of another new week I’m always switched on and focused for another training session but most importantly on another game."

"I set my goals during training and that is to train hard and give my best.

“One of my goals is to gain more running metres during training, good defence, running lines, first up tackles and good finishing.

“I believe that players cannot just turn-up and play well on Saturday when you don’t prepare or train well during the week.

“I always train well during the week and practice to get the tries on game day.

Veteran halfback Frank Lomani said Habosi always worked hard at training.

“He’s been playing well even during training sessions he always put on that world class performance.

“Whatever he does in a game Habosi does that during training,” he said.

Habosi added that he is grateful to be playing in the Super Rugby competition.

“It’s always be my childhood dream."

"The good thing is that I’m playing alongside Onisi Ratave, Kalaveti Ravouvou and Kitione Ratu.

“They have really supported me in my game."

"I feel excited because back home I only watch Super Rugby on television, but now I’m here playing in one of the world’s toughest rugby competition.

“I’m looking forward to play for the Flying Fijians team in next year’s Rugby World Cup only if the coach (Vern Cotter) selects me.”
