Lightweight boxer Ubbayd Haider’s training has toned down and he is now focused on fine-tuning his body for the March 2 clash against Mohammed Ali at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Haider, who was formerly known as Nathan Singh, is now working on tying up a few loose ends in his preparation.
“I’m actually in my recovery stage right now so I’m ready for the fight,” Haider told SUNsports.
“I’ve minimised my training to keep the explosiveness up so I’m very explosive for the eight-round fight because I have been training 32 to 33 rounds per day. I brought it down to just eight rounds a day.”
Haider said he faced a few challenges in his preparations for the fight against Ali.
“I faced a lot of financial problems but either way we are well-prepared.

Haider said his team has set a game plan that would lead to a knockout.
“At the end of the day in boxing anything can happen, I don’t want to make predictions now, but we hope to kick him out of there before the final round,” he said.
Looking ahead, Haider said his next move could be a fight against Rakuro Daunivavana or Mikaele Ravalaca.
“This fight will take place before my US (United States) tour.”
Haider said he struggled a bit in putting up to the agreed 61 kilogramme weight for the main supporting bout.
“I have got three and a half kilos left and we are hoping to make the weight before the day of the fight,” he said.
The fight is the main supporting bout to the Fiji cruiserweight title fight between challenger Joseph Kwadjo and Alivereti Kauyaca. The programme is under the Bluewater Boxing Promotions.
