Natabua High School sprinters Nemani Mudreilagi and Jasper Williams High Vika Bavui put up stellar performance during the Lautoka Zone at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.
Both received the best female and male athletes award respectively.
Mudreilagi, the silver medalist at the Coke Games last year, was grateful for his achievement but focused on the Coke Games in Suva next month.
“There’s room for improvement I have to lift my preparation,” he said
He won gold in the senior boys 100 metres, 200m with a time of 22.48 seconds ahead of Jolame Vunisa who clocked 22.78 . He also anchored his team’s 4 x100 relay.
“My motivation was the Natabua family, old scholars and friends. I dedicate my achievement to my family and the Natabua High Lonehats,” he said.
Bavui is now focused on her preparations for the Coca-Cola Games.
She won gold in the senior girls 100m, 200m with a time of 27.43 secs ahead of Senimilika Radrudru 28.31. She also anchored her 4x100m relay.
“My best time is 10.95 secs in the 100m on Friday, ” she said.
“I will start my training for the Coke Games on Monday. I dedicate my achievement to my parents in Navosa and to all my supporters.”
Ba Provincial Freebird Institute sub junior 3000 metre event winner Aliti Talei won gold clocking 13.59 minutes
She beat Adi Viniana Labalaba of St Thomas High who clocked 15.15m and third spot was Tamarisi Tinigadinadina of Central College (16.01).
“I feel I am performing well because of my teachers and the old students’ support and I believe I can do well at Coke Games,”she said.
Meanwhile, Natabua High and Jasper William High retained the respective boys and girls titles once again.
Jasper won 33 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze medals, Natabua High second (8, 10, 6), St Thomas third (4, 10 ,7) and Ba Pro fourth (3,5, 8).
In the boys division Natabua High amassed 32 gold 17 silver and 8 bronze medals, Tilak High second (5, 8, 4), St Thomas third (3, 8,10) ,Lautoka Andra (3, 4, 0).
