Flying Fijians winger Jiuta Wainiqolo left no stones unturned when he took the field last Saturday against the Scottish.

It was a sweet victory for the FIJI Water- sponsored home side when they beat Scotland, 29-14, before more than 10,000 spectators at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva.

Wainiqolo scored a try in the 60th minute from an offload by Caleb Muntz; he beat multiple defenders and dashed for the tryline for their third try.

“Before we ran onto the field, the message was - we do not know when will be our next home Test match; whether we will play again in front of our home crowd or not and that was why we gave our all.

“The win is for Fiji – for our families, fans who turned up and those watching from home,” the former Ratu Kadavulevu School student said.

The Toulon winger was emotional following their win as he recalled the last time he played at the national stadium three years ago.

“The last time I played in Suva, my father passed away (a few months earlier) and playing today my mum was sitting alone at the stand: I thank God that she is well and so are my family,” Wainiqolo said.

“I thank God for today. I am happy that we achieved our goal. I thank the coaches for trusting me to play in Suva.

“We did not expect the turnout to be like this; I know after the Wallabies match people knew what we were capable of, it was evident when we got in the country.”

“We’re glad that we got the job done well.”

Wainiqolo and fellow Europe based players are also on holiday; he will return to join Lyon in the next season.
