Joeli Turaga Eyes Medal At Fiji Finals

The Naroi, Moala, Lau lad is competing in the 100 and 200 metres Intermediate boys at the Games which starts tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva.

 Yasayasa Moala College sprinter Joeli Turaga is not intimidated by renowned schools as he prepares for his first Coca-Cola Games.

The Naroi, Moala, Lau lad is competing in the 100 and 200 metres Intermediate boys at the Games which starts tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva.

He took gold in both the events during the Maritime zone meet yesterday; clocking 12.09 seconds in the 100 metres and 25.45s in the 200m. 

“I thank God for my talent,” he said.

“First goal done and I can’t wait to compete against the big schools at the Games.

“I am aiming for a medal as this is my first Coke Games,,” the 15-year-old added. 

“I’ve been to Suva but participating in the Coke Games is a different feeling. Winning a medal on my first Game will be special. 

“Training was tough – we ran along our sandy shores and carried sand bags as weights.”

Schools participated in the Maritime zone included Adi Maopa Secondary School, Koro High School, Rotuma High School and Gau Secondary School.
