Fiji Airways Fijiana sevens captain, Reijieli Daveua, has urged rugby fans in Fiji and abroad to rally behind them as they countdown to the Olympic Games.

The Paris Olympic Games in France is from July 26 to August 11.

Speaking to FRU Media in Hong Kong following their 19-15 win against Canada in the plate final, Daveua said the win was one of their best performance in the HSBC SVNS Series.

“The ladies did well,” she said.

“Even though we lost in the (Cup) quarterfinal we came back. The main thing is the points. We worked hard for that and I’m happy with our performance.”

Some of the major learnings at So Kon Po, was to be prepared mentally for every match.

“We got the fitness, we got the heart it’s just the mental toughness– how we read the game it’s the main thing for us.

“We will go back and work on what we need to do so that we can help the team.”

The Fijiana sevens side will work on the much-needed improvement to prepare for the Singapore 7s from May 3-5.

“I know it’s a short turnaround, we are going back to rest, it’s the Olympic year, so we will work hard from here so we’ll see what’s next,” Daveua said.

“To all the fans keep supporting us; do not lose hope. Pray and cheer for us.

“I know it’s’ an Olympic year and the players know that. We are going to work hard for that, some of the mistakes that we did we will go back and see.”

The Fijiana sevens team is currently sixth on the ladder with 54 points while the Black Ferns lead the table with 106 along with Australia.
