The Fiji Airways Fiji men’s rugby sevens team to the Hong Kong Sevens will be named after next weekend’s Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

This was confirmed to FRU Media by newly appointed head coach Osea Kolinisau who also indicated the players would be playing for their respective clubs during the Marist Sevens.

“There will be no Fiji Barbarians side taking part in the local tournaments and I want the boys to have a good outing with their own clubs,” Kolinisau said.

He added that the final national team would be selected after the Marist tournament and would be based in Suva throughout the remainder of the HSBC SVNS Series.

The Hong Kong Sevens is from April 5-7.

The Fiji team is in Pool B along with Australia, Ireland and South Africa.

Kolinisau was impressed with how the players responded during their training sessions this week.

“We want to dictate the tempo of the game and play a high tempo game that we are known for,” he said.

“That can only be achieved through fitness.

“Defence is another aspect of our game that we are working on now. We want to pride ourselves on our defence as this will win us championships.”
