Kumar Saves, Nadi Vets Win

Goalkeeper Salesh Kumar made a crucial save as his JK Nadi Veterans side beat Rewa Legends 5-4 on penalty kicks of the RC Manubhai/Apco Coatings Veterans Tournament 2020 final at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, yesterday.
Both teams drew 0-0 at the end of play and Kumar who was playing link was then switched to goalkeeper to replace an injured Waisiki Batina.
The 43-year-old managed to leap to his left and stopped Joela Baledrokadroka’s penalty attempt to send the Nadi fans into a frenzy.
Nadi’s goals from the penalty spots came from Kesho Gounder, Sanaila Dakaica, Salesh Kumar, Ravinesh Naicker, and Ravinesh Narayan.
Rewa Masters had Pita Rabo, Sailosi Livatalo, Seveci Rokotakala, and Thomas Vulivuli on the score sheet.
Comment: Nadi Veterans coach Lambert Sarju said: “I was optimistic of us claiming our third title in a local tournament. It is true that the competition was tough but when we came today, I knew we were going to win. The players played their hearts out.”
The Green Machine walked away $4000 richer while Rewa Masters settled for $1,500.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf confirmed that this year’s tournament will be held in November but they are yet to decide on the venue.
