Lautoka football coach Shalen Lal strongly believes that his players need more game time after they beat Labasa 2-1 in the Digicel Premier League clash at Churchill Park, yesterday.
“This humid condition made the difference in the way we play our football,” Lal said.
“To come out winners with three points is what we wanted. I always told the boys when we’re down we need to regroup and play the 90-minute game. We missed a lot of opportunities. We need more game time is we are to improve.”
Labasa took the lead in the 4th minute when Ilisoni Lolaivalu slotted in the goal after Lautoka goalkeeper Joela Biuvanu mistimed the bounce of the ball.
In the 16th minute Saula Waqa equalised for Lautoka after powering a shot through the Labasa defence.
Halftime: Lautoka 1-1 Labasa
In the 54th minute Sairusi Nalaubu walked in from close to halfway to beat goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau for their second goal.
Labasa coach Ravneel Pratap said suspension due double yellow cards was costly to the team’s performance.
“Congratulations to Lautoka they played well and they deserve the victory. It was a good game and I am proud of my boys. It was a well-distributed game,” he said.
