The 2022 Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha Fiji Inter-District Championship will have a new winner after Lautoka failed to field a team at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The absence of the dominant Sugar City side leave the field open for other districts to have their hands on the cup.

Yesterday, in the final pool matches, Nadroga football rep Sajneel Sharma scored the winning goal intheir 1-0 win over Nadi in their final pool match.

The Nadroga side also had Paulo Buke on their side but unfortunately could not put his act together as he missed a penalty.

Team manager Nitulesh Mali said: “It was a grand match of football under the scorching sun; we had the luck I guess; we hope to qualify for the semi-final but let us see,”

In the other matches Uluisila edged Nadroga 3-2, Valley held Ba to a 1-1 draw.

Nasinu also drew 1-1 with Suva, Wairabetia lost to Tavarau/Varoka 3-0, Navua drew with Koronubu 1-1 and Labasa 0–0 Tuva.

Tournament coordinator Jyotish Singh said this was one of their biggest tournament.

“A total of 16 open men’s grade and 10 masters teams competed.

“There were no overseas teams this year, but we have overseas players in some local sides,” he said.

“We do expect the level of the competition to raise eyebrows this time around especially after two years of no competition.”

The competition continues today.
