Age is just a number as I can still run, says 40-year-old Police Women’s rugby sevens captain.

Mereani Moceituba led her side during the first leg of the Fun Flavour Super Fiji Rugby Sevens Series at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, yesterday.

She was making a return to sevens rugby after a five-year lapse.

Moceituba who hails from Vuna in Taveuni said, before playing for Police she represented Striders from 2014 to 2017.

“It is true, age is just a number and I can still run,” she said.

“Sports participation has been a norm for me. It is good to be back playing in the sevens code. We have a good team and it is all about exposure.”

Moceituba, was a member of the Fijiana XVs side during the Oceania qualifiers under then head coach Seremaia Bai and later made Fijiana extended squad when Ro Alifereti Doviverata took over from Bai.

For the past two years Moceituba has been part of the Suva team playing in the Skipper Cup competition.

Moceituba also played left back for the Fijian Women’s football team at the 2010 Oceania championship in New Zealand.

“S p o r t s keep me going with my fitness and well-being,” she said.

Moceituba confirmed that she would join the Suva Women’s football team for this year’s Interdistrict Championship.
