Five of our weightlifters will be com­peting at the 2018 Australian Inter­national Open,this weekend.

This was confirmed yesterday by Weight­lifting Fiji general secretary, Ritesh Rati­ram.

The weightlifters are Apolonia Vaivai, Ma­nueli Tulo, Poama Qaqa, Taniela Rainibogi who will be joined by Eileen Cikamatana.

“The championship will be held at Slee­man Sports Complex Chandler, Brisbane, Australia from February 23 to February 25,” Ratiram said.

PREPARATION

He said that over 100 athletes from seven Oceanic countries would be featuring in the competition.

“It is specifically designed to provide the athletes of the Oceania region with much-needed international competition as part of the preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

“This competition will help gauge the quality of the preparation of our athletes for the Commonwealth Games, in Gold Coast,” he said.

TOUGH BATTLE

National coach Joe Vueti said they would be expecting some fierce competition from the other countries.

“Everyone who qualified for the Common­wealth Games (CWG) from Oceania is go­ing to be there,” Vueti said
