Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua winger Kolora Rosi Lomani’s call into the squad was a surprise.

The Kadavu native who shares maternal links in Ra said it was a tough journey.

Born in Lautoka, she was brought up in the gold town of Vatukoula, before her family moved to New Zealand when she was six-years-old.

She is one of the eight overseas-based players in the in the Fijiana Drua.

Of the six Super W games, Lomani scored five tries in four games including the final at AMMI Park in Melbourne on Saturday.

“I’m happy to be born in Lautoka and brought up in Fiji,” Lomani said.

“To be honest I wasn’t really expecting to be chosen in the Fijiana Drua for the Super W this year but I’m grateful and thankful for the very small and big opportunity that He (God) has given me.”

She has learnt a lot over the past two months.

“It has been a great journey with the girls meeting them and learning a lot of from them.

“It was not easy being in Australia, through camp and training which we’ve been working a lot on outside of the field.

“All the girls have been putting in the hard work. It hasn’t been easy but it’s good to be here now.

“From when I walked into camp, I was very nervous not knowing anyone especially when I’m from overseas,” she added.

“The girls were very welcoming, very friendly, it’s been great.

“I did not expect more from the girls as we know Fijians are very loving and we all get along with each other.

“It’s been tough coming into the camp, didn’t expect it to be hard like this even watching the video back home of how hard the girls been training.

“So hats off to the girls for putting in the hard work from Fiji and you can see it on the field of how hard we have been working outside the field and behind the scenes.”

Coach Senirusi Seruvakula will name a Fijiana 15s side to take on two Tests matches against the Wallaroos and Japan on May 6 and 13 respectively.

“It will be a big opportunity for some of us girls to play in the Test match and good opportunity leading to the Women’s rugby World Cup,” Lomani added.

She was part of the Wellington Under-18s girls’ rugby team from 2013 to 2017 and Northern United Rugby Women’s Team from 2017 to 2020.

In 2019 she had her first debut for Wellington Pride women’s rugby team and now plays for Marist St Pats Women Rugby team as well.
