As the Digicel Fiji Kulas (national women’s football team) embark on their journey to Samoa for the OFC Women’s Olympic Qualifiers, all eyes will be on US-based Preeya Singh.

With star striker Trina Davis sidelined due to injury, Singh’s inclusion has brought an added dimension to the squad.

Singh, who showcased her exceptional talent during the Under-19 OFC Women’s Championship last year, is set to join the Kulas squad for Colombia for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in August.

“I’m looking forward to another chapter of the competition,” she told SUNsports.

“We have a great team with a mission to accomplish. We have faith and need support from all fans.”

Several members of the Kulas travelling squad to Samoa, will use this competition to prepare for the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup.

Kula head coach Angeline Chua expressed her confidence in the team’s composition.

“We have 23 players in the squad, including one overseas-based player, Preeya Singh, we are happy to have her join us,” Chua said, Adding to the team’s depth were three former Kula players who returned from Australia after a playing stint with a third-division club.

They are Koleta Likuculacula, Seruwaia Vasuitoga, and Anasimeci Volitikoro. They reunited with the squad and poised to bolster the team’s line-up alongside Singh.

Chua said the invaluable experience brought by the trio, highlighting their potential impact on the team’s performance.

Notable names in the squad include vice-captain Cema Nasau and Sofi Diyalowai who have returned from trials with Orlando Pride as well as defender Angeline Rekha who went for trials with the Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand.

“We have a good mix of younger and seasoned players so I am confident that we will have a great outing. We are leaving no stones unturned and will give our all.”

The side flew out of Nadi International Airport yesterday.
