Maqala Aims To Lift Performance

France-based and Bayonne scoring machine utility back Sireli Maqala aims to lift his game if given the green light h against Japan in two days.
The FIJI Water Flying Fijians flew out to Tokyo on Tuesday morning for their last Pacific Nation Cup match against Japan on Saturday night at the Prince Chichibu Memorial stadium, Tokyo
The Nakorotubu, Ra native had played against Tonga and Samoa. Fiji won both games beating Tonga 36-20 and Samoa 33-19.
“My aim is to improve my performance from the last two games, especially to us, the three backs,” Maqala said before flying out to Japan.
“I am hoping Japan gives us a good game,” he said.
The 22-year-old is one of the five Olympians in the Fijian side. The other Olympians are Meli Derenalagi . Jiuta Wainiqolo, Iosefo Masi and Semi Radradra.
Prior to this year’s PNC Maqala was selected in the Fijian squad for the 2021 Oceania Sevens Championship, a warm-up tournament prior to the 2020 Summer Olympics.
He was also part of the Fiji sevens team that won a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The Flying Fijians will take on Japan Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium (known as Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium) in Central Tokyo, Japan on Saturday at 10.15pm.
Results so far: Samoa 24-22 Japan, Japan 21-16 Tonga, Fiji 36-20 Tonga, Fiji 33-19 Samoa.
