Mars house topped off the Natabua High School Interhouse yesterday at the Churchill park grounds after scoring a total of 3476 points .
Team coach Inoke Namataga said it was a team effort that pushed the athletes to the top of the score board after not winning in 2018 ,2019 and then being unable to compete last year due to the pandemic.
“Mars house has always been a champion house from years before this victory goes back to all those previous athletes who have represented mars house,” he said.
“We are very blessed with marvelous athletes, this year and they stuck to the program of training from week one, and with the cooperation of all teachers, the staff members, and all the students who lifted their hands to represent the house from day one.”
He said the level of commitment and dedication shown by students would be further capitalized on as the athletes prepare for the zone meet in week nine.
“We are still on the preparation mode but they have performed the expectation the level that we had at the moment. We have very good athletes that have shown that talents. The division category was a very eye opener because new talents, were exposed.
He said training for the zone meet starts this Monday for the athletes
Natabua High School Assistant Principal Eta Elenoa Tamani said there were competitions in the championship and division categories.
“For potential in terms of the zone we have identified our potential athletes from Mars, they really improving especially in this second day of competition but we can’t really tell right now because the athletes from all the four houses have been running and competing and theres very good competition,” she said.
Mosese Bibi scooped gold in the senior boys 400 metres, 200 metres and 4 by 100 metres respectively while Mereoni Kuru got gold in the senior girls 100 metres ,200 metres and 4 by 100 metres.
Natabua High School have created some household names in athletics like Iliesa Tanivula, Isoa Me, Shane Tuvusa and Uluiyata Batinisavu.
They have been champions once and the hunger for the Coke games and returning to the West.
Venus house came in second with 3303 points, Jupiter 3181 and Pluto with a total of 2952.
