Blockbusting player of the Swire Shipping of the Fijian Drua, Iosefo Masi is potentially the turn­ing point for rugby in Fiji.

His offloads, moves, and ball carry are taken as indica­tions, that he may be surprised with the tactics intro­duced by the Mick Byrne-coached side.

The 2020 Olympic Games Gold medalist took out the FijiCare Rookie of the Year, a special award with dis­tinct criteria.

“It is a good feeling to get this award, it all comes to dedication and teamwork,” he said.

“I dedicate this award to the team and my families back home. I am looking forward to the future which seems too bright at this stage,” said the former Queens­land Cowboys wing.

The awardee must be in their first year of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition. The winner is selected for their ability to adapt to the demands of Su­per Rugby through outstanding levels of self-leadership, discipline, and professionalism). This award was voted by the Fijian Drua staff.

Whatever the outcome the future holds, one this is for sure, the rugby world will witness champagne rugby of the Pacific which has awed fans the world over.
