Fiji can host the World Sevens Series, says Fiji National Sports Commission chairman Peter Mazey.
“We can do it and I believe in Fiji totally on that,” he said yesterday.
“Fiji is always ready as we have hosted international events. And I have been involved ever since when we prepared to host the South Pacific Games back in 2003.
“Government is committed and part of the national strategic plan was to get ready for the 2027 Pacific Games, so yes we can always get ready.”
World Rugby had previously set out their criteria for the 7s bid some of which would be requiring works on the sporting facilities.
“I believe in Fiji totally on that, we can get special facilities, we can get temporary seating in from overseas and it can be prepared.”
Mazey said for the World Sevens Series tournament they would be starting with some temporary structures next year.
“You watch what comes after that, we will be ready, they (World Rugby) wants 20,000 to 30,000 seating capacity. Take a look overseas in Dubai it is all temporary structures and we can do it.
“If World Rugby grants us that right you can guarantee that the whole country will be behind it. Government, the sports commission and all other organisations will work together to make sure that we have the best sevens leg,” he added.
