Rewa Rugby Union secretary Petero Kaveni says, they’re looking forward to a year of breakthrough not only for their clubs but for their provincial team as well.
“This year there has been an increase in the number of clubs from 16 to 28,” he said.
“This is a good thing because now the interest is really high in the province.”
Kaveni said supporters have converged at Burebasaga District School to cheer on their teams.
“Not only has there been an increase in teams but their participation have attracted more supporters as well, which is good for our province.”
He said one of their main targets would be solidifying their position in the Skipper Cup competition and at the same time strengthening their club competition.
“Just by watching the first few games we can tell that teams have prepared well, the intensity of the game has definitely increased.”
Kaveni said this indicate a very positive vibe for them.
“Villages have opted to field their own teams and this maximises the development of their players and chances to be picked for provincial duties which is something they all are looking forward to.”
“Everything about how this year started for us is different and this will be reflected on the performance of our team in the upcoming Skipper Cup competition. This year will be very different for Rewa Rugby and we are excited,” he added.
