I’m the country’s featherweight king without the crown.

This was the comment of stylish boxer Ubaydullah Haider when he signed the contract to challenge Krishnil Mudaliar for the Fiji super featherweight title on May 18 at Prince Charles Park, Nadi.

“I know Krishnil because we have been training and sparring together,” Haider said in Suva yesterday.

“I’ve spent five years chasing after him (Krishnil) and I’m looking forward to our dance in the ring.”

The 24-year-old said he is going to bulldoze his way over Mudaliar and be crowned the country’s super featherweight champion.

South Pacific Boxing Promotions promoter Fred Chand said the 10-round title fight is going to be an explosive affair.

He said the fight would the main bout the IBO (International Boxing Organisation) Asia Pacific super welterweight title fight between Fiji’s Winston Hill and Jyl Wright of Australia.

A relaxed Mudaliar told SUNsports that he is glad to have sealed the deal with Haider.

“A lot has been said but he who boxes smart will win in the ring and that is what I intend to do. It’s all about getting the little things right and when I do that, it’s going to be an easy win.”

Mudaliar said the focus now for him is to make the 57.5 kilgramme weight. He has also held the Fiji bantamweight and super flyweight titles. He also fought for the World Boxing Foundation Australasian featherweight title where he lost to Jai Alexander on a split points’ decision.

“After retaining my title against Haider, next on my list is the Fiji featherweight title, which is held by Junior Binnu Singh,” Mudaliar added.
