Kelera Mudunasoko of the Barracuda Swim Club is one of the swimmers that will be taking part in the 2023 World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, from July 14-30.

“My cousin Anaseini who took part in swimming for (Suva) Grammar motivated me to take up swimming even though she doesn’t swim competitively,” she said.

The 15-year-old Swami Vivekananda College student from Nadi is originally from the village of Levuka in Lakeba, Lau, with maternal links to Volivoli Village in Nadroga.

Mudunasoko competes in the 50metres, 100m and 200m breaststroke events.

“I’ve been training hard so I can strengthen my arms. I had a few hiccups in my preparations for the World Champs as I got sick due to the cold weather,” she said.

“My motivation is Moana Wind (Team Fiji swimmer) because she won the 50m, 100m breaststrokes at the 2019 Pacific Games at a young age. That always inspires me to keep trying harder.”

Mudunasoko is grateful to her coach Rosemary Rova for training her and her parents for their endless support.
