Once again Cruising and Racing Yachts will meet for the 35th Annual Musket Cove Fiji Regatta on September 7-12 at the famous Musket Cove Island Resort and Marina.
This is a big boost for nautical tourism which remains as an integral part of Fiji’s tourism industry.
Co-ordinator, Jack Hargraves says the cruising and racing sailors from around the Pacific and beyond, along with their families and friends, are already making plans to be part of the region’s ultimate sailing event, the famous Musket Cove Fiji Regatta.
“For more than three decades Musket Cove Fiji Regatta has been famous for its traditional, warm hospitality, excellent racing and a fun factor that remains on high from start to finish,” Hargraves said.
“This year will be no different: sail by day and party by night.”
Will Moffat, an experienced yachtie, said the early interest in the regatta indicated there would be more participants this year.
“Party Central” for all participants post-racing will be based around Musket Cove Yacht Club’s unique open-air Island Bar, where great island music will get things moving.
“The majority of competing yachts lie at anchor just off the resort; however some berths at the island marina and set moorings are available. It is suggested that owners wanting to secure a marina berth or mooring should book early,” Moffat said.
Musket Cove Fiji Regatta is famous for its traditional, warm hospitality, excellent racing and a “Fun Factor” that remains on “high” from start to finish.
For the sailors, the event on the water is the 20 nautical Round Malolo Lailai race which starts and finishes adjacent to Musket Cove Resort.
History
The warm welcome for cruising yachts dates back to Musket Cove’s founder the late Dick Smith, a yachtie himself.
The Regatta was born in 1984, since then it has been unbroken to date.
