The Naitasiri rugby side started their 2021 campaign on a positive note.
This was after their 10s team playing under the name Duavata took out the Pratap Civil and Asphalt Quarry sponsored- Rise Fiji Rise Jetset tournament at Prince Charles Park, Nadi, on Saturday.
The Duavata side coached by Naitasiri head coach Ilaitia Tuisese as they beat Saunaka 21-0 in the final.
Duvata captain, Josaia Tagivetaua and Maciu Vakacabeqoli scored a try each and were converted by Kini Douglas for a 14-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half it was Saula Naicori who scored the third try with the conversion from Flying Fijians first five eight Tuidraki Samusamuvodre going over. Tuisese told SUNsports that their participation in the tournament was a team building exercise.
“We are just like going to an off season stage. But we had an ideal preparation and we have got what we have come for,” he said.
“There were a lot of new boys coming to the system. For us to come and participate and go back with the spoilers is a big bonus for us.
We are looking forward to come and play against Nadi in the Farebrother.”
Naitasiri reached the grandfinal of last year’s Skipper Cup competition. Tournament organiser Jeff Tamata said the main purpose of the tournament was to give time and exposure to the teams before they enter the fifteens season.
“We were surprised by the standard and the pace of the game.
“The main purpose of this tournament is to give them a lot of time and a lot of exposure for their plans before they enter the fifteens season.”
He acknowledged the major sponsor Pratap Civil and Asphalt Quarry for coming on board and sponsoring the tournament.
