Natabua High School and Jasper Williams High School dominated the Lautoka Cola-Cola Games competition at Churchill Park yesterday.
NHS retained the boy’s title with 41 gold, 9 silvers and 7 bronze medals followed by St Thomas High School with 3 gold, 15 silvers and 9 bronze medals.
In the girls category JWHS scooped the top spot with 43 gold, 13 silvers and 5 bronze medals while Natabua High came second with one gold and 13 silvers. Ten records were broken during the two-day competition.
NHS sprinter Shane Tuvusa was crowned the Best Male athlete while JWHS Akanisi Sokoiwasa was named the Best Female athlete.
Coca-Cola Amatil Fiji marketing manager Lawrence Tikaram said such games would bring character building and when athletes chose to participate and learn about comradeship they were showing good sportsmanship.
“It is a great value in building a great person and we hope that with the value that you take from here will not be for today but for the years to come. These values are values of self-respect and respect for others,” he said.
“I would like to share one great inspirational story of success that was back in 2013 when the students of Jasper William High School brought for the very first time the Coca-Cola trophy back to Lautoka. That I believe was the change and the catalyst that changed everything. Natabua High School followed and all of a sudden the western schools became the force to be reckoned with.”
Lautoka Coca-Cola Zone Games president Jupendra Narayan said it all depends on the facility and hard work that has put in by the schools and it was a well-deserved win for Natabua and Jasper.
